Famous Bus Trips
Some of the club’s most popular events are the “Famous Bus Trips” and other excursions arranged by Jan Burwell and the board. Often scheduled after the Program Year has been planned, we put the word out on the latest trips with emails and snail mail.
The destinations range from special shows at LACMA (the Los Angeles County Museum of Art), the Getty, Norton Simon, Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, San Diego’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and more. Getting there is part of the fun. Peggy Carlson has even been known to serve wine and hors d’oeuvres in transit on occasion, and we always make time for lunch at unique restaurants in the area.
This program year's trips include a visit to see The Broad's astounding new collection in downtown L.A. on Jan. 12, 2016, and the Getty Center's Cave Temples of Dunhuang: Buddhist Art on China's Silk Road, on Aug. 18, 2016. See the Events page for more information.
Not all our excursions are by bus, however. We took a Metro and walking tour of the fantastic Public Art in the L.A. Metro Stations with the MTA’s Helen Ortiz-Gilstrap, and we often carpool to local destinations such as AMOCA (the American Museum of Ceramic Art) in Pomona, and the Maloof Studios and Art Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga.
